COMPETITIONS
Irish step dance is a competitive sport, similar to gymnastics or figure skating. In solo
competition, dancers compete by age and ability level. A panel of adjudicators evaluates
carriage, execution and complexity of steps to determine scoring and awards. Dancers
may also compete on teams including traditional ceili dances, figure choreographies and
dance dramas that depict themes from Irish history and mythology.
