JIM MUELLER, TCRG & LAUREN CROWE-MUELLER, TCRG
Classes are taught by husband-and-wife team Jim Mueller, TCRG and
Lauren Crowe-Mueller, TCRG. Both grew up in Portland, Oregon, attending
rival high schools and sharing mutual friends but never having met.
A native of Portland, Jim learned his first Irish steps as a postgraduate
hobby, dancing and instructing ceili with the Tyrone Ceili Dancers under
Wallace Harris and step dancing with the Molly Malone Irish Dancers. Jim
helped found ceili societies in McMinville and Ashland, Oregon, and founded
the Irish dance troupe, Thar an Phail.
Lauren was a 1988 Portland Rose Festival Princess, studying nursing and
musical theater before moving to Nashville, Tennessee. There she began
step dancing with the Nashville Irish Step Dancers, appearing on Prime Time
Country and Live At The Grand Ole Opry, dancing with The Chieftains, and
performing at renaissance festivals throughout the United States.
They met in class with world-renown instructor Tony Comerford in Seattle,
were engaged at Comerford Feile na Nollaig in December 1999, and were
married in their hard shoes in May 2000. With the Comerford School, they
became successful open champions, competing at the North American,
All-Ireland and World Championships in both solos and teams.
Jim is a two-time Western US Regional Champion in solos and danced on
three Western US Championship teams. A three-time qualifier for the World
Irish Dance Championships, Jim placed 2nd at the North American
Championships and 4th at the All-Irelands. Lauren is a World qualifier and
danced on two Western US Regional Championship teams.
Jim & Lauren spent 1999 & 2000 touring nationally with Dancing on Common
Ground, returning to the Northwest in 2000 to assist Tony instructing in
Seattle and Portland. They appeared on the cover of the December 2000
issue of Irish Dancing Magazine, and with Tony, were IDM's teachers of the
month for January/February 2003.
Jim & Lauren received their TCRG's in 2003 and 2005 respectively. As
instructors with the Comerford School in Oregon, Washington and Idaho, Jim
& Lauren trained four Western US Champions, choreographed the 2005
North American Dance Drama Champions and placed dancers in the top ten
at the World Championships.
In 2005, they founded An Daire Academy of Irish Dance. They currently
instruct in Oregon, Washington and Idaho, performing and teaching
workshops throughout North America.
